The most common questions I get in the comments and my DM’s on Instagram over the last few years are about the kitchen in our first home (Glam Hamptons), so I thought I’d write a whole blog post breaking down all of the details, from the stone we used, to the colour of the cabinets, the appliances and even the stone edge profile.
When we were building that home, we truly thought it would be our forever home, so we wanted to create our dream kitchen, especially since we had an open plan area, and it really was the heart of the home.
Before I even really knew what the Hamptons style was, I had my mind set on an all white traditional style kitchen, and when I was searching for inspiration on Pinterest, “Hamptons” kept popping up, and well long story short I fell in love with the whole style and as you can tell, I ended up re-designing the rest of the home too.
Hopefully this helps you if you are building or renovating your kitchen, or is something you can reference back to one day when you do!
CABINETRY
STONE
With the stone, I really wanted a thick marble style vain running throughout, but natural marble wasn’t an option (both from a budget and maintenance perspective), so I searched and searched until I finally came across the incredible “Statuario Venato” by Smartstone. I’d never actually heard of Smartstone, only the usual company’s like Caesarstone and Essastone, who at the time didn’t have great options, but have since added some beautiful new marble look styles to their ranges.
Admittedly again, this stone is definitely not budget friendly, as it is in Smartstone’s Exclusive range, which is at the top end of their price bracket, however looking back that’s one thing I don’t regret at all!
In photo’s it looked beautiful, but in person it was even better, and I can’t even count how many of our family and friends who would look at in person and not believe us when we said it wasn’t natural marble, it was that realistic (but without all of the maintenance!)
When it came to the profile edge of the stone, I was considering going with a more modern pencil cut, but I couldn’t take my mind off the beautiful French/ Double Ogee profile which I felt really finished the kitchen off.
So in summary:
STONE: Statuario Venato Gloss by Smartstone (engineered stone)
THICKNESS: 40mm
PROFILE: 40mm French Ogee with Palladio Apron (as per the stonemason)
LIGHTING
Picking lighting is a little less stressful, because you generally have the ability to change it, which is exactly what we did after about 2.5 years. We initially started with more industrial style chrome pendants, which are commonly used in Hamptons style kitchens, but after a while I wanted to change them out for a different style, and went with matte black cube style pendants, which I found at a great price!
The industrial chrome pendants were purchased from a store in Perth called Lighting Warehouse which recently closed down, however Beacon lighting do very similar ones, which I’ll link below.
The black pendants I picked up on sale from Early Settler for only $65 each!! It look’s like they still stock them, so I’ll also leave them linked below if you are interest.
FIXTURES & APPLIANCES
I also thought I’d add in all of the tapware, handles and appliance details at the end here, as I often get questions about those too. I have also added a link to all of the items I could find online.
