Now that we’ve finally settled into our new home for the time being (House 2 – Coastal Hamptons), I wanted to do a dedicated blog post with all the details, starting with the heart of the home, the kitchen!
If you remember the kitchen in our last home (House 1 – Glam Hamptons), you’ll notice this one is very different, not only style wise, but from a budget perspective too.
Since this home will eventually be an investment property, it wouldn’t be wise to spend what we did in our last home, so the budget was MUCH smaller, however, I loved the challenge!
I felt just because it was an investment property didn’t mean it had to be bland and boring. I also wanted to take into consideration the potential resale value for the future, and that it would still be our home for however many months we’ll be here, so I wanted to create a beautiful, but budget friendly kitchen, and I think we achieved that!
CABINETRY
Starting with the main part of the kitchen, the cabinetry. Initially I was hoping to go with a shaker style profile, however, after getting the quote back I was a bit shocked and didn’t realise the additional cost for that profile, so I opened my mind to other profile options, which is when I found the VJ style profile.
Admittedly at first I wasn’t too sure, but after looking on Instagram and Pinterest for Coastal style kitchens, I found this profile was actually used quite a bit within the style, and it started to grow on me.
Although it was still an upgraded profile, it was roughly half the cost of upgrading to the shaker profile, so I felt it was a happy medium where we could still get a beautiful profile, without spending too much!
We also decided to go with a Vinyl material over 2 Pack paint this time, as again there were significant savings, and potentially a lot more durable!
Now that we’re living here and it’s all complete, I am so happy with my decision and how well it works in the kitchen! You’ll notice in the photos that the lower pot drawers and the inside of the island are just a flat profile, which I chose as I was worried it might be a bit too busy if we went with all VJ profile cabinets, and I’m very happy with that choice as it’s a perfect balance.

STONE
We knew we wanted to upgrade to stone rather than just a laminate benchtop, however we still wanted to keep it within budget.
I wanted a clean white stone, so we ended up going with “Select White” by Q-Stone with a 20mm edge, which is a part of their most affordable range. I’d hoped it would be a bit more white, as in dull lighting it can give off a creamy tone, however for that price bracket I am more than happy with it, especially as it has very minimal flecks.
Initially I wasn’t too concerned with it marking even though it was white, as our last kitchen stone was a bright white from Smartstone and we never had issues, but unfortunately this one has not been as great, as it really seems to take on stains & marks quickly!
LIGHTING
I feel like pendant lighting in a kitchen can really make a big impact, and with this kitchen in particular these rattan pendants completely elevated it! They add so much texture, and really bring in that Coastal feel and complete the whole space.
They are from Early Settler Furniture, in the “Naia Rattan Dome” style, linked below:
BACKSPLASH
I really wanted to bring in a element of luxe with the backsplash and create a feature out of it, but still keep it within the Coastal Hamptons feel, and these Carrara Marble Fish Scale mosaic tiles I think really achieved that.
Since marble mosaic tiles can be quite expensive, I spent quite a while shopping around until I found some that I could justify buying, and ended up finding these for only $9 a
sheet from Tile Factory Outlet! Most other retailers were selling the exact same ones from $20 to $35 per sheet, so I was thrilled to find them at this price!
I also decided to pay homage to our previous home, and just use the marble as a strip feature in the centre, with simple white subway tiles either side, just like I designed in the laundry of our last home! I personally prefer this when using a shaped mosaic
tile, as sometimes I think they can look a little too busy, and this is also a great
way to save money, as the white subway tiles are much more affordable than the marble,
so a win, win!
HANDLES & KNOBS
I really wanted to add white handles and knobs in this kitchen so that they would almost blend in with the cabinetry and not be a feature, however most of the white handles I could find were VERY pricey. Eventually I ended up finding these ones from Ikea, and of course being from Ikea they were incredibly affordable and allowed us to save hundreds of dollars, so as you can imagine I was very happy to find them!
I’ll have both styles linked below:
LAYOUT
In regards to the layout of this space, I really wanted a nice flow from the kitchen, through the scullery and into the laundry. From a practically side of things it’s been great, but I also love the visual aspect, as you can see all the way through to the laundry, where
I used all of the same selections to really keep a nice flow to the space.
We’ve loved having a scullery, especially since we didn’t have one in our last home. The walk in pantry is incredibly huge (opposite the sink), but is very much still a work in
progress, so follow along on Instagram to see how I organise it!
We also decided to keep the island completely clear and add a double sink into the
scullery, as it’s just a few steps away, and it’s been great!
Lastly, we decided to go with an integrated dishwasher in the scullery to keep the flow and it all have a cohesive look, and surprisingly this wasn’t that costly, if anything was actually more affordable, as the original dishwasher we had selected was more than the integrated dishwasher + the panel front, so we were very pleased with that!
I’ve tried to cover all of the main features of the kitchen, but if you have any questions at all just pop them down below, or feel free to send me a message over on Instagram, as that’s where I’m chatting with you all daily.
I hope that this has helped you if you are also designing a Coastal Hamptons style kitchen, or designing any style kitchen on a budget, and can see that you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a beautiful space too ♡
